This week we got to show off our personal businesses at the tradeshow. I think that the event was very successful for everyone. It allowed us to reach out to new potential customers and spread the word about what our businesses provide. It was a great experience. I am very pleased with my experience with my personal business. It really has changed the way I see things and how do things in my life. I’m a lot more prepared in general than I was before I started Vorhies Wash & Detail. We’ve been doing an exit interview for the class. Filling out the interview made me realize how close we are to the end of the CEO year and how much I’ve gained from the CEO program. I’m so glad that I took CEO because without the program I wouldn’t have gained the lessons and opportunities that I’ve gotten this year.

We visited Ten Acre Treehouse’s and got to see a business that I personally had never heard of. It was a really cool visit, where we got to hear about Mr. Bob Hopp’s business story. This week we got to visit CNH Industrial and see the manufacturing aspect of business. It was cool to see how a large business like CNH and CEO have similar ways of doing things. Like having different executives and branches, as well as having even small groups of people working together to achieve the same end goal. Mr. Chris Talley was our tour guide on our visit. He showed us some very interesting things that CNH does and is involved in. Mr. Talley also was our guest speaker on Tuesday. He talked to us about being intrapreneurs in larger businesses. It was neat to see how most of the businesses in America are small businesses, while only a percentage are large scale businesses.

I really liked the whole “CEOlympics” idea and theme. I think it was unique and brought a different aspect compared to a regular business luncheon. I really enjoyed being able to be a part of the finance team because that gave me a little insight into the financial part of business and what it’s like. The highlight for me was seeing all of the people excited and interested in what we had done as a group. I think working together as a group to create a successful event was another highlight. I will remember all the work that was put in and how hard everyone worked. I will remember coming together to do something special with kids I’ve known my entire high school career and kids that I just met this year. I will always remember the joy all of us had when the event was over and we knew that it had been successful.

Ms. Rachel Lewis came and spoke to us about marketing and sales. It was a really interesting presentation that showed us how to use marketing and apply it to our personal businesses. I really enjoyed learning about different marketing strategies and how to use them. One of the things that really stuck out to me from the presentation was to “Make the most out of a situation.” I really like that message because no matter what is going on in your life, you get to choose how you react and what you do next.

We went to CVS this week and got to hear from Mr. Jared Murphy. Mr. Murphy showed us some interesting things about the management part in a business. He also said that leadership is very important in business and I thought it was interesting to see that our own class business had a similar look in regards to business structure and how group has to work together to succeed. I thought it was interesting that Carthage is very known overseas in the swine business.

Mr. David Zanolla spoke to us this week this week about everything Disney. He talked to us about all the Disney parks, how they operate, and what Disney expects from their employees. I found it really interesting on how much Disney does for their guests and how they go above and beyond just to please their guests. I also thought it was interesting on how Disney strategically does certain things in order to make sure everyone that visits is as happy as possible.

One thing that stuck out was when Mr. Boyd said that “You are selling yourself and your company, not your product or service.” I really thought about that advice and it made me think of an entirely new aspect in business. We also had Mrs. Ada Bair come in and speak to us. I thought the entire presentation would be about the medical world, when in reality, Mrs. Bair showed us all opportunities in the business world and how to take advantage of them. She also talked about being open to learning and “ to seek first to understand, and then to be understood.” I really liked that quote and I think it really helped me have a better understanding of being successful.

This week we had Mrs. Honey Zimmerman talk to us about Supply Chain Management. She told us to think of Supply Chain Management as a “Huge Umbrella” and how much it is involved within the business world. It opened my eyes that almost everything, if not everything, that has to do with a business goes through Supply Chain Management. One thing that really stuck out to me from the presentation was when Mrs. Zimmerman talked about planning and how important it was. It made me think back to last week when Mrs. Jan Filkins talked about goal setting and how planning and writing down your goals is huge. It made me realize just how important it is to plan ahead and to make sure I’m prepared for everything.

We went to Marine Bank & Trust this week. We learned a lot about the financial side of business and how your line of credit really impacts you. There were a few things that stuck with me from the visit to Marine Bank & Trust. One was that personality can trump skill. The other thing that stuck with me was that in business you should hire the right people.
